Ricky Tam started practicing Aikido in May, 1998, one month after his eight year old daughter, Kimberly, started her practice. He is very pleased that his daughter and son, Robert, are practicing Aikido and are active members of the Shugenkai Community.

"About nine years ago, I was looking for a physical activity that promotes collaboration for my daughter; and my research pointed to Aikido, an internal martial art for peace. And I was very fortunate to stumble into this Aikido dojo. After watching my daughter in her classes for a few times, I started my own practice at the age of 42. Since then, I have been practicing the art within this caring and supporting dojo under the guidance of our Sensei. My practice continues to impact my life as my understanding of budo grows."

Ricky is married with two children, and his family live in Newark, California.
