Glenn Orr started practicing Aikido in 1996 at the age of 30, having had an interest in martial arts ever since childhood.
"I was very fortunate to stumble into a somewhat well-hidden Aikido dojo behind a lumber yard one evening in 1996. I knew I wanted to study some kind of martial art, and my wife had heard of Aikido from a friend, so I thought I would check it out. The first time I stepped on the mat, I knew I had a lot to learn. Now, eleven years later, when I step on the mat, I know I have even more to learn. Like most Aikido students, my concept of what a martial discipline was all about was quite misinformed when I began this journey. It’s fascinating and rewarding to look back and see how my perception and understanding have changed through the years, and it’s equally satisfying to see that change in others. Shugenkai has a great sense of community, and the people I practice with have really become an extended family. I see the value of this budo in my life and in the lives of my students more and more every day."
Glenn is married with five children, ranging in age from 10 to 25. Glenn and his family live in Fremont, California
